Review: Peanut Butter Cap’n Crunch Cereal

capncrunch.jpgThroughout my entire childhood I never once ate Peanut Butter Cap’n Crunch. I had original Cap’n Crunch, and I had Cap’n Crunch with Crunch berries, and I even had the knock-off brand version of Cap’n Crunch, but I somehow missed out on the peanut butter version. Luckily, my girlfriend is well acquainted with Peanut Butter Cap’n Crunch, and she has introduced me to it somewhat recently. So, in tribute to one of the first blog-style websites I enjoyed reading on a regular basis, emptybowl.com (a cereal review site, may it rest in peace), I would like to give my impressions on Peanut Butter Cap’n Crunch.

Firstly, I’ll say that I love this cereal. As a sugar-cereal connoisseur, I can say with confidence that this one is delicious. Unlike traditional Cap’n Crunch the Peanut Butter version has a slightly smoother texture, but is still plenty crunchy and maintains the Cap’n Crunch style. Also preserved is the base flavor of Cap’n Crunch - the peanut butter taste is not overpowering and complements Cap’n Crunch very well. In the average time it takes me to eat a bowl of cereal, these puffs keep a good percentage of their crunchiness - but if they do happen to get a bit soggy, they are still great. Having a nice transition from crunchy to slightly soft is a good cereal experience in my opinion, and this cereal does a great job in that regard. Even the aftertaste left by Peanut Butter Cap’n Crunch is enjoyable and not in any way bad. The integrity of the milk is maintained, and it makes for a great finish to a bowl. While I still enjoy original Cap’n Crunch as much as I always have, I now have an equally enjoyable alternative that I can turn to when I need to mix up my cereal choices.

In the spectrum of cereal pricing, Cap’n Crunch is closer to the top than the bottom, but it’s still not as expensive as some. I would say that for the quality of the cereal, this is worth the price most of the time.
